Growing mushrooms on hardwood logs can be very rewarding. because hardwood is a very dense growing substrate, it will take some time for your fungus to run through the timber, the tade off however is that your logs can continue to fruit each winter for up to 7 years. Logs should be seasoned for no less that 2 months before being innoculated and once set up, should be kept in a cool and damp environment and given time to collonise. Logs can be stacked and left in a very shaded area of the garden, wrapped in shade cloth and kept in a basement, or wrapped and burried until collonisation is achieved.
